The Milkomeda C1 sidechain is an EVM-based sidechain designed to bring EVM capabilities to the Cardano blockchain. There are many projects built on the Milkomeda EVM and these are all a part of the Milkomeda ecosystem for Cardano. The Milkomeda EVM sidechain was developed by dcSpark, and they are the maintainers of this sidechain.
Anyone can launch their protocol into the Milkomeda ecosystem and the projects that have launched, or are launching, in the Milkomeda ecosystem are listed here. Many of these projects are genuine however many community members would tell you to be wary of many of them, as there are many projects (specifically DeFi projects) that promised to launch on Cardano yet chose to launch into the Milkomeda ecosystem on the Milkomeda C1 sidechain. This is because developing in Solidity, the smart contracting language for EVM-based chains, is much easier, and much more universal, than developing in Plutus; Cardano’s purpose-built smart contracting language.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How do I bridge to Milkomeda?
The bridge for the Milkomeda C1 sidechain can be found here. Bridging is done in just a few simple steps and currently requires Flint wallet on the Cardano side of the bridge and either Metamask or a Wallet Connect enabled wallet to receive your ada on the MIlkomeda C1 network.
- Does Milkomeda have a token?
The Milkomeda sidechain and the Milkomeda ecosystem do not have their own token. Milkomeda’s interoperability solutions, that bring EVM capabilities to non-EVM blockchains, use wrapped layer 1 base assets as their base assets. For instance, on the Milkomeda C1 network Cardano’s native ADA is wrapped to become milkADA, and this milkADA is what is used as the base currency for Milkomeda C1 and it is also used to pay the network’s transaction fees.
