Coral reefs are complex and ancient habitats. -They have been a feature of life on Earth for around 500 million years.

They are a critical component of life in the ocean. Often referred to as “rainforests of the sea,” coral reef ecosystems are one of the most biodiverse in the world. Around 25% of all marine species rely on coral reefs, including sharks and sea turtles, crustaceans, and schooling fish. Florida’s Coral Reef is the third largest barrier reef in the world and the only barrier coral reef in the continental United States. We currently stand to lose all shallow-water coral reefs by the end of this century. This is why we donate 50% of our block rewards to Coral Restoration Foundation™.

Corals are resilient and have been resilient for millions of years. Like any group of organisms, however, their resiliency comes from evolution's ability to naturally select from a diverse wild population. Without a genetically diverse wild population, evolution's selective power in the face of environmental change is limited, and the population's resiliency is lessened. Florida’s Coral Reef is the third largest barrier reef in the world and the only barrier coral reef in the continental United States. Coral reef ecosystems are important for human subsistence, fisheries, tourism, shoreline protection, and yield compounds that are important in the development of new medicines.
